Holistic Play School is located at 503 E Lacrosse Ave, Spokane Washington.
I own and run a play based in-home preschool for children ranging in age from two to five. I believe in unstructured play as a learning tool, and so while at times you will find us quietly working on shapes, tracing letters, or practicing telling time, you will also encounter rowdy running, block building with the end goal being that we knock our buildings over with as much noise as possible, and lots of loud muddy outdoor digging and play.
Because I understand that children develop at different ages, I do not require toilet training.
If your child is not using the toilet, please bring along a couple of extra diapers or pull ups.
I also ask that you please dress your children in comfortable clothing and play shoes, you might even like to leave a pair of rain boots at school for them to use daily. I encourage you to send along an extra set of clothing as well, as we do
tend to get dirty, muddy and wet!
What I provide is not just activities and social time for your child, I provide free range learning, the ability to roam the house and the yard freely, the chance to help prepare meals, the ability to learn how to create and steep herbal teas and make fresh juices, the freedom to sip a mug of tea or enjoy a snack that they made and sit on the floor with friends, telling stories, building, or simply staring off into space if they so desire.
My school and home is free of traditional sitting furniture so that I can encourage more movement
and body strength in my children and students.
Here is a favorite quote from Katy Bowman, a biomechanist who lives a furniture free life with her family.
"As a biomechanist, I understand the relationship between musculoskeletal function and the immune system, bone robusticity (density and shape), and functions like digestion and breathing. Having furniture isn't an option for us, in the same way a cupboard full of junk food isn't an option for many others. Furniture creates a development-crippling environment in that the stuff literally shapes our body, both in the now and in the future."
I am a homeschooling mother of three children; Eddie Mark, Tamra Rose and Aashi Kiran.
I am cpr/first aid certified, have my current food handlers card, am certified in the Fundamentals of Childhood and Youth Studies, teach creative movement for preschoolers, teach simple herbalism classes for children , and am a teacher of lacto fermentation classes for children & adults.
My background and current passions include working as an herbalist, working as a wholistic birth doula, working as a midwife's assistant, teaching childbirth classes and training wholistic birth doulas. I was also employed as a nanny, as well as owning and operating a daycare that utilized my beliefs and passions for attachment parenting and holistic living.
